Chinese smart phone maker Xiaomi is carving out a niche in apparel, launching a pair of sports-style smart shoes in partnership with the footwear company Li-Ning, also based in China. The Li-Ning Smart shoes link to a smart phone app via Bluetooth, and incorporate sensors in a module under the soles to gauge fitness stats.
The sensors in the sole, which can hold up to the rigors of running for up to a year, can help wearers maintain a healthy physique, measuring the amount of steps one has walked or run, along with calories burned. As the shoes are immune to both sweat and water, they won’t get damaged in the process. Users can view the fitness data on their smart phones, through an app that comes with the footwear.
The shoes are currently available in China only.
